Is Uganda in the Bible? Bible Study & Prayer for Uganda

Uganda is not named in the Bible. It lies in East Africa on the northern shore of Lake Victoria, where the White Nile begins its long journey north. The Nile itself appears in Scripture as the great river of Egypt (Isaiah 19:7), and the Bible names African lands along it, such as Egypt and Cush, often translated "Ethiopia": "Ethiopia shall hurry to stretch out her hands to God" (Psalm 68:31).

Uganda is also remembered for young believers who were put to death for their faith in the 1880s. Jesus told His followers, "If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before it hated you" (John 15:18). He also gives them "a Kingdom that can't be shaken" (Hebrews 12:28). Believers who stand firm today can take up the shield of faith and rest in the victory Jesus won by His blood.

How to pray for Uganda: Give thanks for its people. Ask Yahweh to give its leaders wisdom, justice and care for the poor. Pray for protection for the vulnerable and healing for the wounded. Pray that believers and churches stand firm in faith and love, and that the name of Jesus (Yeshua) brings freedom and peace across the land.

Most often we don't know what to pray in a given situation, much less for something as large and complicated as a whole nation and all its people. Scripture says it plainly: "we don't know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us" (Romans 8:26). Praying in tongues lets the Holy Spirit perfectly pray Yahweh's will through us for Uganda and its peoples. Learn more in Prayer in the Spirit.
