Power & Authority
The related concepts of power and authority ultimately flow from Yahweh Himself—Father, Son and Holy Spirit. As He is the source of all things, including existence itself, He inherently has power and authority over all things.
24Then the end comes, when he will deliver up the Kingdom to God, even the Father; when he will have abolished all rule and all authority and power. 1 Corinthians 15:24
I put these two subjects together because, in the life of the believer, they cannot be separated. One must have authority in order to act in the power of another, or else they would be considered a renegade, vigilante, rogue agent, etc. But one must have power to effect one's authority, or else it has become a matter of semantics with no vessel to channel that authority into a viable ruling.
18Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Matthew 28:18
Because of this truth, we as His creation may join with Him in His rule over the universe, according as He has called us and as we act in faith.
19Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. Matthew 28:19-20
As seen in the words of Jesus, because all authority had been given to Him, we therefore are to go and make disciples of all nations in God's Name. However, we must heed his other command to wait before going out, that we might receive the power necessary to effect his authority.
49Behold, I send out the promise of my Father on you. But wait in the city of Jerusalem until you are clothed with power from on high.” Luke 24:49
4Being assembled together with them, he commanded them, “Don’t depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which you heard from me. 5For John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Acts 1:4-5
Thus, this area will look at how the believer in Yahweh through Christ Jesus can and must receive both the authority and power to act in His stead, in His Name.
