Is Switzerland in the Bible? Free Bible Study & Prayer

Switzerland is not named in the Bible. It is a mountain country in central Europe, home to the Alps, with several national languages. The psalmist wrote, "I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? My help comes from Yahweh, who made heaven and earth" (Psalm 121:1–2). Switzerland is also remembered for the Reformation, when teachers in cities such as Zurich and Geneva urged people to return to Scripture.

In a peaceful, orderly and prosperous country it can be easy to feel no need of God, yet Jesus said, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven" (Matthew 5:3). Yahweh's help is for every person, rich or poor, in every valley and city.

How to pray for Switzerland: Give thanks for its people. Ask Yahweh to give its leaders wisdom, honesty and care for the vulnerable (1 Timothy 2:1–2). Pray that hearts are opened to Jesus (Yeshua) and that the Word of God is read and loved again. Pray for believers and churches to be revived, bold and united across every language and region, and for newcomers and the lonely to find welcome.

Most often we don't know what to pray in a given situation, much less for something as large and complicated as a whole nation and all its people. Scripture says it plainly: "we don't know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us" (Romans 8:26). Praying in tongues lets the Holy Spirit perfectly pray Yahweh's will through us for Switzerland and its peoples. Learn more in Prayer in the Spirit.
