Yahweh in Russian (Яхве): Bible & Prayer for Russia

Russia is not named in the Bible. Some teachers connect it with "Rosh" in Ezekiel 38:2, which the World English Bible renders "Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal." That link is debated. The Hebrew word rosh also means "head" or "chief," and many translations read "the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal." Scripture itself does not say that Rosh is Russia.

What Scripture does say is that Yahweh's name is for every nation. In Russian, Yahweh is written Яхве. Older works use Иегова (Jehovah), and the Russian Synodal Bible usually renders the name as Господь, "the Lord," much as most English Bibles use "the LORD." The name of Jesus, Yeshua, means "Yahweh saves." "Let them praise Yahweh's name, for his name alone is exalted" (Psalm 148:13).

How to pray for Russia: Pray for its people, across its many regions and peoples. Ask Yahweh to give its leaders wisdom, restraint and a heart for justice and peace (1 Timothy 2:1–2). Pray for comfort for those who grieve. Pray that believers are strengthened and kept faithful, and that Yahweh's name is known and honored across the land.

Most often we don't know what to pray in a given situation, much less for something as large and complicated as a whole nation and all its people. Scripture says it plainly: "we don't know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us" (Romans 8:26). Praying in tongues lets the Holy Spirit perfectly pray Yahweh's will through us for Russia and its peoples. Learn more in Prayer in the Spirit.
