Prayer Points for the Philippines: Bible Study & Prayer

The Philippines is not named in the Bible. The name can sound familiar to Bible readers, but Paul's letter to the Philippians was written to believers in Philippi, "a city of Macedonia" (Acts 16:12). The Philippines took its name centuries later from the Spanish prince who became King Philip II.

Scripture still has a word for a nation of islands: "Yahweh reigns! Let the earth rejoice! Let the multitude of islands be glad!" (Psalm 97:1). It also shows us how to pray for any nation, with "petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks ... for all men: for kings and all who are in high places" (1 Timothy 2:1–2). Jesus taught His disciples to begin with "Our Father in heaven" (Matthew 6:9), so we pray as one family.

Prayer points for the Philippines: For the people: that families across the islands would know the love of Yahweh and the salvation that comes through Jesus (Yeshua). For leaders: wisdom, honesty and justice, so that people may live tranquil and quiet lives. For believers and churches: unity, faithfulness in prayer and boldness to share the good news. For those facing storms, poverty or separation from family: comfort, provision and protection.

How to pray: Bring these needs to the Father in the name of His Son, as Jesus taught (Matthew 6:9). Keep praying with thanksgiving, and keep watching in prayer, not only once.

Most often we don't know what to pray in a given situation, much less for something as large and complicated as a whole nation and all its people. Scripture says it plainly: "we don't know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us" (Romans 8:26). Praying in tongues lets the Holy Spirit perfectly pray Yahweh's will through us for the Philippines and its peoples. Learn more in Prayer in the Spirit.
