Is the Marshall Islands in the Bible? Study & Prayer
The Marshall Islands are not named in the Bible. They are a scattering of low coral atolls in the central Pacific Ocean, so remote that the sea seems to stretch in every direction. David wrote of the "uttermost parts of the sea" (Psalm 139:9), and added, "Even there your hand will lead me, and your right hand will hold me" (Psalm 139:10). No place is too far for Yahweh.
Scripture speaks to islands again and again. Yahweh says, "The islands will wait for me, and they will trust my arm" (Isaiah 51:5). The people of these atolls have known a history of hardship, including nuclear testing carried out on their islands in the last century, and the sea is always close.
How to pray for the Marshall Islands: Give thanks for its people. Ask Yahweh to give its leaders wisdom, honesty and care for every family (1 Timothy 2:1–2). Pray for comfort and healing for those still living with the effects of past hardship, for protection from storms, and for young people to find work and hope. Pray that believers and congregations are strengthened, and that the name of Jesus (Yeshua) is known across the islands.
Most often we don't know what to pray in a given situation, much less for something as large and complicated as a whole nation and all its people. Scripture says it plainly: "we don't know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us" (Romans 8:26). Praying in tongues lets the Holy Spirit perfectly pray Yahweh's will through us for the Marshall Islands and its peoples. Learn more in Prayer in the Spirit.
